How To Give Yourself A Foot Massage
After a day of work, there's nothing better than a nice foot massage. Our feet work hard during the day and relieving the stress in our feet which has built up throughout the day will also help to relieve stress in other areas of your body and your mind too.
Try this simple, step-by-step technique to soothe your feet...
Find a comfy spot to sit and then rest one foot on the opposite knee so you can reach it with both hands (right foot on left knee or left foot on right knee).
1. Introductory stroke
Hold your foot with both hands and press your thumbs slowly along the bottom of your foot from your heel to your toes. This can be one continuous stroke or you walk your thumbs up the centre line of your foot.
Rub the pad of each toe and then squeeze gently for around 30 seconds. Hold the base of each toe between thumb and forefinger and pull up. Massage between the toes too, especially between the first two.
3. Ball, arch and heel
Using both hands, massage the ball of the foot. Try long, continuous strokes, or make little circles with your thumbs. Do the same on your arch and your heel. As you use your thumbs, reach your fingers around the top of the foot and rub gently.
Flex and rotate your foot several times to loosen it your ankle. With your hand flat, rub back and forth just under the ankle and then massage the top of your foot from your toes to your ankle. End with soothing strokes up the calf from ankle to knee.
Now you have done one foot, it's time to swap and massage the other using the same technique.
